How to organise PDF pages on Mac
The whole document laid out as a grid. Drag a page — or a whole selection — and drop it where it belongs. Free in Verso.
Rearranging a document should not be a paid feature, and here it is not. Organize Pages is the single screen where every page operation lives.
Every page operation on this page is free and always will be. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing is watermarked.
Opening it
Choose Organize Pages from the document actions panel on the right, under Pages. The document lays out as a grid of page thumbnails, large enough to recognise what is on each one.
What you can do from here
| Operation | What it does |
|---|---|
| Reorder | Drag a page, or a whole selection, and drop it where it belongs. |
| Rotate | Turn a page 90° at a time. Applies to the document, so it is right way up for everyone. |
| Duplicate | Copy a page in place — useful for a template page you need several of. |
| Extract | Pull pages out into a new document, leaving the original as it was. |
| Delete | Remove pages you do not want. |
| Insert | Bring pages in from another PDF at a chosen point. |
Selecting pages
Selection works the way it works everywhere else on your Mac.
| To select | Do |
|---|---|
| One page | Click it |
| A run of pages | Click the first, then ⇧-click the last |
| Scattered pages | ⌘-click each one |
| Everything | ⌘+A |
| Nothing | Click an empty area, or press ⎋ |
Every operation applies to the whole selection, which is what turns “fix the order of forty scanned pages” from an afternoon into a couple of minutes.
A sensible order of work
When a document needs several things doing, the order saves effort:
- Delete what should not be there — blank pages from the scanner, duplicates, the cover sheet from the fax.
- Rotate anything sideways — easier to judge order when every page is the right way up.
- Reorder — now that what remains is what you want.
- Insert anything missing from another document.
- Crop, if the margins need trimming, once the page set is final.
Take a snapshot before reorganising a long document. Snapshots are named restore points kept on your Mac, and Verso takes one automatically before the most destructive operations — but a deliberate one before an hour of work is worth the second it costs.
When the job is bigger than one document
Organize Pages works within a document. Three neighbouring jobs have their own tools: merging several documents into one, splitting one into several, and inserting another document's pages at a specific point. All three are free too.
Frequently asked questions
How do I rearrange the pages in a PDF on a Mac?
Open Organize Pages in Verso, which lays the document out as a grid, and drag pages where you want them. It is free.
Can I move several pages at once?
Yes. Select them with ⇧-click or ⌘-click and drag the whole selection. Every operation applies to the selection.
Is organising pages a paid feature?
No. Reordering, rotating, duplicating, extracting, deleting, merging, splitting and cropping are all free, permanently, with no account.
How do I undo a page change?
⌘+Z within the session. Snapshots are restore points kept on your Mac for going back further, and one is taken automatically before the most destructive operations.
Does reordering pages change the file permanently?
Only once you save. Saving overwrites the document you opened, so keep a copy if you need the original order.
Can I organise pages in a scanned document?
Yes. Page operations do not care whether a page holds text or a picture of text.
