Help with Verso

Verso has no account and no sign-in, so there is nothing to recover and nobody to verify — your documents live on your Mac and only there. If something is not behaving, here is where to start.

Common questions

I lost a document. Can you get it back?

We cannot. Verso has no server, no account and no copy of anything you open — there is nothing on our side to recover from. Your documents live in your own storage and are covered by whatever backup your Mac already does, such as Time Machine or iCloud Drive. Verso also keeps snapshots of a document you have been working on, and takes one automatically before the most destructive operations, so a recent version is usually a few clicks away inside the app.

I bought Premium and the locks are still showing.

Open Verso and restore purchases; the locks clear as soon as Apple confirms the purchase. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account that bought it. If it still does not clear, email verso@mahtca.com with the date of purchase and we will help.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Through Apple, not through us. Open System Settings, click your name, then Media & Purchases, then Subscriptions — or manage it from the App Store on any device signed in to the same Apple Account. We never see your payment details and cannot cancel on your behalf.

A document will not open, or opens blank.

A small number of PDFs are damaged in ways that no reader can recover, and some are encrypted with a password that has to be supplied first. If the file opens elsewhere but not in Verso, that is a bug and we want to hear about it — tell us what happened and what you expected. Please do not send us the document.

Can I edit the text in a scanned document?

Not until it has been recognised. A scan is a picture of words rather than words, so there is nothing to click into. Run Make Searchable over it first — it happens on your Mac — and the text becomes selectable, searchable and editable.

Does Verso work without an internet connection?

Entirely. Verso contains no code that talks to the internet, so there is nothing to be offline from. Text recognition, conversion, compression and the assistant all run on your Mac. The only thing that needs a connection is the App Store itself, when you buy or restore a purchase.

How do I make Verso open my PDFs by default?

Verso offers to do it during the short tour the first time you open the app, and there is a switch for it in Settings afterwards. You can change your mind either way at any point; nothing else about your Mac is touched.

Is there a version for iPhone, iPad or Windows?

Verso is a Mac app. It is built for macOS specifically — real menus, real keyboard shortcuts, real drag and drop, tabs that behave the way tabs behave everywhere else on your Mac — rather than a web page in a window.
