Acceptable Use Policy
Verso is a tool for working with documents you are entitled to work with. This policy sets out the small number of things it may not be used for, and is honest about what we can and cannot do about it: the app runs entirely on your Mac and transmits nothing, so we have no visibility into any of it.
1. Status and incorporation
This Acceptable Use Policy forms part of the Terms of Use. Breaching it breaches those Terms.
2. Acceptance
Using Verso means accepting this policy.
3. Intended uses
Verso is a document tool for people who need to read, mark up, correct, reorganise, complete, sign and protect PDFs they are entitled to work with: contracts, reports, forms, plans, filings, manuscripts, records and correspondence. Redaction, sanitize and password protection exist so that a document can be shared safely. Text recognition exists so that a scan can be read and searched.
4. Prohibited conduct
You may not use Verso:
- to forge, falsify or alter a document in order to deceive — including contracts, invoices, receipts, certificates, identity documents, academic records, medical records, financial statements or court filings;
- to remove, obscure or defeat a copyright notice, watermark, signature, seal or other mark placed on a document by its owner in order to misrepresent its origin, authorship or authenticity;
- to alter a document you are under a legal or professional obligation to preserve unchanged, or to destroy evidence;
- to defeat access controls on a document you are not entitled to open, or to attempt to recover a password you were not given;
- to process material whose possession or distribution is unlawful where you are;
- to infringe copyright, trade secrets, confidentiality obligations or the privacy of others;
- to produce material that harasses, defames or endangers a person;
- to breach the Terms of Use, the App Store terms, or any law that applies to you.
Redacting a document before disclosure, correcting a typo in a letter you wrote, filling in a form sent to you, signing a contract you are a party to and removing metadata before sharing are all ordinary, intended uses. This section is about deception and unlawful material, not about editing.
5. What we can and cannot do
We cannot see what you do. Verso runs entirely on your Mac, transmits nothing and keeps no record anywhere we can reach. There is no monitoring, no scanning of your documents and no server-side log, and we could not build one without abandoning the design of the app.
What we can do is act on a credible report: investigate the app for a defect that facilitates misuse, change the app, publish guidance, terminate a licence for a material breach of the Terms, and cooperate with a lawful request from an authority to the extent that we hold anything responsive — which, in practice, is essentially nothing.
6. Cooperation with authorities and with Apple
We will respond to a valid legal request to the extent the law requires. We hold no documents, no account data and no usage records, so the honest answer to most such requests will be that we have nothing to produce. Purchase records are held by Apple and are subject to Apple's own processes.
7. Reporting
To report misuse of Verso, or a defect that makes misuse easier, email verso@mahtca.com with enough detail to understand what happened. Do not send us documents containing other people's personal information; describe the problem instead. Reports made in good faith will not be held against the reporter.
8. Consequences of breach
A material breach may result in termination of the licence granted under the Terms of Use, and may be referred to the competent authorities where the law requires it.
9. Reservation of rights
Nothing here limits any other right or remedy available to us at law.
10. Third-party beneficiaries
Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this policy and may enforce it against you. No one else acquires rights under it.
11. Survival, severability and governing law
Sections that by their nature should survive termination do so. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stands. This policy is governed by the law of Romania, and the courts competent for the registered office of MAHTCA GLOBAL have jurisdiction, without depriving a consumer of the mandatory protections of the law where they live.
12. Changes
If this policy changes, the version number and effective date at the top change with it, and the current version always lives at this address.
